Makes a great gift!
Whether you are new to making your own medicine or a seasoned herbalist, you will like what this mighty jar has to offer! We take the hassle and guesswork out of sourcing all of the necessary ingredients.
Use this quick and easy recipe to get your self acquainted with making your own herbal remedies. Elderberry (from native Elder plants) has long been revered as a powerful herbal ally who is really great at facilitating your body's immune response.
I have been giving my children seasonal doses of elderberry for about 4 or 5 years now and have noticed a significant decrease in the frequency and severity of seasonal ickies.
My favorite way to enjoy elderberry is with a rich syrup. There are many variations as far as the types of herbs you can integrate in this immune-boosting, palatable syrup. I have combined a few of my favorites but feel free to experiment and add in some anise, nettles, vanilla, astragalus, or wild cherry bark just to name a few.
All you need to do is empty contents into a small saucepan, add 2 cups spring or distilled water, boil over medium-high heat until liquid reduces by half. Strain out herbs by pouring over a wire mesh sieve or cheesecloth, back into mason jar. Add honey (preferably raw and local!) to liquid until jar is approx. 3/4 full, stir to completely combine. (Optional: for longer shelf life, top off jar with brandy or apple cider vinegar.)
Enjoy whenever you need a little boost or crave a taste! It's delicious stirred into teas or sparkling water(our fave!...such a beautiful color!)
For preventative support - enjoy 1 tsp. daily
During those ickies: 1Tbs every few hours as needed.
Prepared syrup should be enjoyed within 2-3 months for best quality and taste.
Dried Herbs will keep in sealed mason jar away from light and heat for 2-3 years but are best prepared within 1 year of purchase.
